Read All About Us: 2005 Annual Report Posted Online

If you've ever wondered about the remarkable scope of work done by the Attorney General's Office, the Fiscal Year 2005 Annual Report provides a pretty good explanation.

This 39-page summary provides both an overview of the office and brief descriptions of accomplishments by each of our seven divisions. The report also highlights several subjects of special interest. These include:

  • Our ongoing fight against methamphetamines.
  • Increased efforts to prevent identity theft and prosecute identity thieves.
  • Civil and criminal actions related to the polygamous community of Colorado City.
  • Launch of the *CUT IT OUT* program to address Arizona's No. 1 violent crime: domestic violence.
  • Steps to promptly implement Proposition 200 and defend it in state and federal courts.
  • The filing of a major lawsuit against an Arizona land developer.

New elements in this year's report include concise explanations of the Office's civil and criminal jurisdiction (page 4) and a chart listing the top 10 consumer complaints (page 33). The report also notes that our Office has been highly cost-effective, generating and saving millions more dollars than it spends. As one example, we defended against $406 million in liability claims filed against the state last year, and only $7.5 million was paid in those cases.

I'm proud of the fine work done by our lawyers and staff on behalf of the citizens of Arizona. You can see why by clicking on http://www.azag.gov/2005%20annual%20Report.pdf
