DESCRIPTION - POSITION IS PART-TIME (20 hours per week) and includes benefits.

Agent will primarily function as a member of the Attorney General’s Tobacco Enforcement Unit, conducting tobacco compliance inspections with other Attorney General Special Agents and teenagers between the ages of 15 and 17, inclusive. The tobacco inspections are done in an undercover capacity with the accompanying teenagers, and the inspections are conducted in all 15 counties in the State of Arizona. Because of the need to work with high school-aged teenagers, the majority of inspections are conducted in the evenings during the normal work week and on Saturdays during the day. Overnight travel throughout the State of Arizona may occur as often as two or three times each month, usually on Fridays and Saturdays.

In addition, this position performs full professional level general investigations and compliance enforcement, working with a high degree of independence and initiative. Work involves performing in undercover roles, conducting visual and electronic surveillance, conducting compliance inspections and working with other law enforcement agencies in support of prosecutions and enforcement of designated statutes, and agreements related to tobacco and consumer fraud.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES - Knowledge of civil and criminal laws applicable in the State of Arizona, particularly state, federal and local laws concerning fraud, misrepresentation, official corruption, embezzlement, tax evasion, extortion and racketeering. Knowledge of methods, techniques, procedures and practices in criminal and civil investigation. Knowledge of court procedures, practices, rules and traditions. Skill in interpreting and applying federal and state laws, agency rules, regulations and polices regarding investigations. Skill in locating, gathering, compiling, preserving and evaluating collected information. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in interpersonal relations. Skill in work organization techniques. Skill in interviewing and interrogation techniques. Skill in undercover law enforcement and surveillance techniques. Skill in handling and using firearms. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in investigating regulatory or consumer fraud violations.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION - The position requires five years professional investigative/regulatory enforcement experience performing substantially similar duties at a government agency or private entity that conducts general investigations or regulatory enforcement.

Requires certification by the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (A.Z P.O.S.T.) or completion of the A.Z. P.O.S.T. waiver exam within six months of hire. (Eligibility to complete the waiver may be available to those with prior certification as a police officer and who successfully complete written and physical exams).

DESCRIPTION - Performs full professional level investigations of a highly complex nature for the Criminal Division, Special Investigations Section, working with a high degree of independence and initiative. Work involves the composition and service of search warrants, seizure warrants, subpoenas, and wiretaps; tracing and documenting finances; or penetrating criminal organizations or conspiratorial groups in support of prosecution of designated kinds of offenses, including money laundering, white collar crime, organized crime, securities fraud, medical provider fraud, real estate fraud, computer fraud, official corruption, environmental crimes, financial fraud and other forms of racketeering. Also involves coordinating and performing undercover operations, conducting visual and electronic surveillance.
