DESCRIPTION - Performs full professional level investigations of a highly complex nature for the Criminal Division, Special Investigations Section, working with a high degree of independence and initiative. Work involves the composition and service of search warrants, seizure warrants, subpoenas, and wiretaps; tracing and documenting finances; or penetrating criminal organizations or conspiratorial groups in support of prosecution of designated kinds of offenses, including money laundering, human smuggling, organized crime, drug related felony crimes, weapons trafficking and other forms of racketeering. Also involves coordinating and performing undercover operations, conducting visual and electronic surveillance. Work activities will often occur during evenings and weekends.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES - Knowledge of civil and criminal laws applicable in the State of Arizona, particularly state, federal and local laws concerning fraud, misrepresentation, official corruption, embezzlement, tax evasion, extortion and racketeering. Knowledge of methods, techniques, procedures and practices in criminal and civil investigation. Knowledge of court procedures, practices, rules and traditions. Skill in interpreting and applying federal and state laws, agency rules, regulations and polices regarding investigations. Skill in locating, gathering, compiling, preserving and evaluating collected information. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in interpersonal relations. Skill in work organization techniques. Skill in interviewing and interrogation techniques. Skill in undercover law enforcement and surveillance techniques. Skill in handling and using firearms. Ability to work with a variety of task force operations to successfully investigate potential cases. Spanish speaking preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION - Typical ways to obtain KSA’s are: five years of professional investigative/regulatory enforcement experience performing substantially similar duties at a government agency or private entity that conducts general investigations or regulatory enforcement. Requires certification by the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (A.Z P.O.S.T.) or completion of the A.Z. P.O.S.T. waiver exam within six months of hire. (Eligibility to complete the waiver may be available to those with prior certification as a police officer and who successfully complete written and physical exams).

DESCRIPTION - Performs full professional level investigations of a highly complex nature for the Criminal Division, Special Investigations Section, working with a high degree of independence and initiative. The primary focus of the work of the special agent in this position will be to investigate consumer fraud in connection with lending practices of lenders and affiliated entities. Other work involves the composition and service of search warrants, seizure warrants, subpoenas, and wiretaps; tracing and documenting finances; or penetrating criminal organizations or conspiratorial groups in support of prosecution of designated kinds of offenses, including money laundering, white collar crime, organized crime, securities fraud, medical provider fraud, mortgage fraud, real estate fraud, computer fraud, official corruption, environmental crimes, financial fraud and other forms of racketeering. Also involves coordinating and performing undercover operations, conducting visual and electronic surveillance.

This position will only be funded for two years, and is therefore temporary.
