Fair Housing Library Display

Dear Library Director:

Last year the Arizona Attorney General's Office collaborated with housing organizations and professionals to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act as part of the 1968 Civil Rights Act. Through the partnership of our Civil Rights Division and the Fair Housing Steering Committee, community forums and library exhibits were set up around the state and educational materials were created to increase public awareness about housing discrimination and encourage vicltims to bring forward complaints.

The educational materials include a booklet, Housing Discrimination: Get the Facts, and a companion video, Fair Housing for All, which features the stories of discrimination victims and outlines the protections provided by the Fair Housing Act. The video was recently completed and is an exciting new addition this year.

April is Fair Housing Month across the United States. We are hoping that your Library or Library district would be interested in repeating the display and adding our DVD to your collection. If you would be interested, please contact our office at o602.542.8022 / 800.352.8431 (toll free) and we will send you the materials. I have attached a photo of one of the displays and a book list from the "Close the Book on Hate" campaign.

Our success depends on collaboration between Fair Housing advocates and organizations, government officials and community groups representing various perspectives on Fair Housing issues in Arizona. We look forward to hearing from you.
