Preclearances (Voting Rights Act)

Because Arizona is covered by Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, every change that affects voting must be precleared by the United States Department of Justice before it can be implemented. The Arizona Attorney General’s Office obtains preclearance of State legislation and other changes that must be submitted to the Department of Justice.
